Uganda to field U23 team in Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia

This year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup will be for players falling in the U23 Category. Uganda will field predominantly the U20 team that reached the final of the Africa Cup U20 tournament in Mauritania.   The decision to have the U23 players for this tournament was reached during the Cecafa Exco meeting held on 11th March 2021 at Sofitel Hotel, Morocco. The Federation further confirmed that there will be no change in the head coach role for the team. Morley Byekwaso, who is currently serving the Ugandan Premier League side Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC on an interim basis, will lead the technical bench.

Uganda Cup: Wakiso Giants eliminate Tooro United as Express FC send URA home

However, neither of the two teams managed to get a goal in the first half. A minute after the break, Akol punished the Sharks for a slow start to put a smile on his teammates and technical bench. The goal was cancelled in the 63rd minute when Lubwama was let loose in the danger zone and he punished the defenders by shooting past the custodian. It seemed Tooro would win it when Wakiso conceded a penalty with five minutes to go and Oshaba rose for the occasion, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.  But with seconds to go, Ssekajjugo broke the hearts of the home team s supporters with an equalizer.

Uganda Cup: Police FC display was below par despite Bright Stars win – Mubiru

“I thank God for whatever he has enabled us to do and I’m grateful to my players, they have tried to put up some good performance much as it’s not our best performance and we are going into the return leg with a reasonable goal margin,” Mubiru told the club’s official website. “But much as we believe Kavumba is going to be another experience on the day and we are going to blame ourselves for any eventualities.” Ocen opened the scoring early on, tapping home a Muwada Mawejje cross from the right after just two minutes as Police took the lead, and in the 18th minute, the visitors equalised through Joseph Janjali who beat the offside trap and slotted home past goalkeeper Derrick Ochan.

Byekwaso: KCCA FC tactician unhappy with drop in standards

The tactician has now explained what might have contributed to the unsatisfying performance on Sunday. But I cannot fault them because lately we have struggled with injuries and have had to play a few individuals out of position, Byekwaso continued. Three of our top strikers are still out with injury. Brian Aheebwa, Sam Ssenyonjo, and recently Charles Lwanga has also joined the list.   And it is hard for us with the replacements available. They are all inclined more to midfield. That means they cannot give you the urgency in the attack.   Of course, I have seen improvements here and there. But I think we need to get 45% more from their potential to get to the level where we want to be.
