UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Lewis brought us a doubleheader of women’s MMA. Shana Dobson faced off with Casey O’Neill, while Ketlen Vieira clashed with Yana Kunitskaya.
Unfortunately, I was unable to see the Open Fighting Championship 2 fight between Zaira Dyshekova and Irina Degtyareva. When I initially wrote about the fight, it showed as being streamed on YouTube. However, for whatever reason, that changed at some point and the stream was put on a site I am unable to access. Dyshekova won via a third-round submission that put her one step closer to a possible call-up.
So, let’s look at the UFC fights.
On Saturday,
UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Lewis presents us with two female bouts that are worth the anticipation. Ketlen Vieira faces off with Yana Kunitskaya, while Shana Dobson faces off with Casey O’Neill.
In addition, I want to take a short look at the clash between Irina Degtyareva and Zaira Dyshekova that takes place at Open Fighting Championship 2. I know these names might be new, but that is part of why I wanted to at least briefly go over it. My goal is to try to talk about three fights per preview, and I’d like to highlight some lesser-known fighters when I can, so that they can become more widely known.
With four heavyweight match-ups on the docket, this weekend’s
UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Lewis card is loaded with the big boys. One affair that shouldn’t disappoint is the preliminary bout between Jared Vanderaa and Serghei Spivac.
After amassing a 10-4 record, Vanderaa was scheduled to fight Oscar Cota on
Dana White’s Contender Series. However, Cota pulled out four days before the contest and was replaced by Harry Hornsucker. After the first three minutes played out evenly on the feet, Vanderaa clinched with Hornsucker and secured a high-amplitude takedown. He then rained down vicious ground-and-pound strikes and forced the referee to intervene. Vanderaa was subsequently awarded a UFC contract.
