The protesters were led by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Ini Adiakpan, and other women in the state executive cabinet.
Several women groups, including the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), International Federation of Women Lawyers, and the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, participated in the march.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has giving an assurance that anyone indicted or linked to the murder of the 26-year-old jobseeker, Iniubong Umoren, will be punished according to the law.
Umoren, a graduate of Philosophy, University of Uyo, was allegedly lured, abducted, raped and murdered by one Uduak Akpan on the pretext of offering her a job.
The governor gave the assurance when the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, paid an unscheduled condolence visit to the family of the deceased on his behalf on Monday.

The media space have been inundated with the killing of late Miss Umoren by Uduak Akpan, 20, who allegedly lured her to his house in the guise of offering her a job.
The Police in the state announced in a press statement on Sunday that it had arrested the suspected murderer.
Many Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora as well as different organised bodies have risen in condemnation of the act and demanded the prosecution of the perpetrators.
The Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong in a statement issued on Monday in Uyo said the governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel was saddened by the news of the incident saying the ‘most disturbing was the age of the persons involved.’
