MDC Alliance has called for the arrest of Local Government minister, July Moyo over alleged corruption and flouting of tender procedures at the expense of the taxpayer.
This follows reports linking Moyo to the corrupt awarding of a US$9.3 million contract to supply water to the City of Harare without going to tender.
Moyo is said to have instructed staff within the City of Harare to source for the equipment from a company linked to a Mr Kruger without following tender requirements laid down.
Kruger is believed to be a friend of the under-fire minister and is allegedly also involved in the controversial displacement bid of over 12 000 villagers in Chilonga, Chiredzi.

Ex-minister Chombo caged

FORMER Finance minister Ignatius Chombo was last night detained at Rhodesville Police Station in Harare following his arrest on charges of fraud and criminal abuse of office over illegal parcelling out of State land.
Chombo, who allegedly committed the offences during his tenure as Local Government minister in the late former President Robert Mugabe’s government, is alleged to have connived with the former First Lady Grace Mugabe to illegally acquire State land.
He was detained after being interrogated by the Special Anti-Corruption Unit (Sacu), a unit in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s office, following his implication as a key figure in the illegal sale of State land in Justice Tendai Uchena’s Land Commission report.
Ignatius Chombo
President Mnangagwa’s Special Anti Corruption Unit (SACU) this morning arrested former cabinet minister Ignatius Chombo, ZimMorning Post revealed.
According to the publication, Chombo was arrested on criminal abuse of office charges:
Former Finance minister Ignatious Chombo has been arrested by SACU. Charges are: one count of fraud and 5 counts criminal abuse of duty as public officer. All charges arise from the Uchena Land Commission report
A few weeks ago Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi said the case against Chombo and Prisca Mupfumira will be concluded soon.
