India News: GUWAHATI: Assam cabinet decided Friday to repeal the British-era Assam Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registration Act of 1935, transferring all nuptials.
Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in X, "On 23.2. 2024, the Assam cabinet made a significant decision to repeal the age-old Assam Muslim Marriages & Divorces Registration Act. This move marks another significant step towards prohibiting child marriages in Assam".
Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said, "A very important decision has been taken in line with that.
