This year, the virtual poetry reading event will be co-hosted by Edmonton’s Poet Laureate Nisha Patel and Audreys Books. The event will feature readings from UAlberta Press’ newest poetry collections: Gospel Drunk by Aidan Chafe, Deriving by Jennifer Bowering Delisle and The Bad Wife by Micheline Maylor.
Gospel Drunk describes a journey to find clarity and identity while contemplating a Catholic upbringing and struggles with loneliness and alcohol addiction. Chafe employs wit and wisdom, along with sharp, intoxicating imagery and a minimalist aesthetic to explore some of our darkest and strongest belief systems. Boldly honest, this collection is for everyone who is seeking humanity in a world where the personal and the political are equally complicated.
