The Meteorettes finished top of Pool A courtesy of the seven-point win over the then-second ranked Spartans. The loss knocked the Spartans out of the top two and consigned them to a consolation final. For the Meteorettes, the win capped a perfect 5-0 record in the pool matches, ahead of Saturday’s semi-finals. Point guard Paris Santacaterina was again the prime mover for the Meteorettes, with another 23 points against the Spartans.

Led by CQ Cup winning senior Meteorettes duo Phoebe Holmes and Paris Santacaterina, the U18s knocked off Townsville Flames 69-57 in Thursday’s early game before dominating hosts Gold Coast Breakers 85-67 in the afternoon. On Wednesday, the Meteorettes opened their championships account with a 103-38 win over the Brisbane Capitals before outlasting SWM Pirates Purple 86-68. It means the Mackay side is now one of just two teams still unbeaten on the Gold Coast, alongside Pool B leaders Gold Coast Waves.
