at some of the attributes that he has had from athletes past and present from soccer clubs, and to know the esteem in which he was held he evangelized from u.s. soccer, he was someone who can passionately about what he did. and i don t mind saying on air, when i was working on local journalism at sports illustrated, grant was flying the flag, he was an icon. for the young black guy in england, wanting to get into this industry grant was a leader and sometimes when you see leaders they don t just have a presence, but they stand for something principle, compassion ideas, and you look at the ideas that he worked on migrant workers lgbtq community, and that is all grant. and is the reason why so many journalists, english journalists, wake up this morning in sheer shock and
and unfortunately, he passed away. and this is a loss that is being felt all throughout the athletic community. lebron james, somebody that wall reported on when he was in high school never forgetting that moment in that interaction with wall, expressed his condolences today. this is also something that we saw from u.s. soccer s biggest star, megan rapinoe, tyler adams taking to twitter to express their devastation at what a big loss this is. and so right now of course, we are waiting official word, an autopsy in the coming days but at this, point the athletic world is certainly shaken by this loss, alex. it is a loss in a shot, thank you very much reagan for that. let s go to josh lederman senate at the white house for us. we keep getting new word from folks in the administration, we know they ve been in touch with walls wife, talk to celine gounder. what is the latest on that josh? well alex, coincidentally the doctor is someone who is not unfamiliar with this administration. she
minutes before he was taken to the hospital. and tragically, he did not survive. this is a loss that is really permeating throughout the entire athletic community. we know the grants wall covered lebron james, for example, early on in his career when he was in high school. lebron james, is speaking out. i want you to listen to a bit of what he had to say. i was very fond of grant. and having that cover shoot, me being a teenager and covering that. it was a cool thing and he was always cool to be around. a spent a lot of time with him in my hometown of akron. it s a tragic loss. unfortunate to lose someone as great as he was. yeah, a lot of athletes are feeling the impact of grant walls death. u.s. soccer, fifa, other officials expressing their
