A crowd started lining up for the grand opening of the new Eegee s restaurant in Gilbert early Thursday morning. Gilbert resident Tyson Theabold started the line at 6:05 a.m., and by the 9:30 a.m. opening time, about 250 diners were waiting to order Eegee s signature frozen drinks and other dishes.
Pops of color enlivened the restaurant: bright yellow booths and highlights of mint green and watermelon pink. A DJ spun a specially curated playlist as diners indulged in Bacon Ranch Fries, toasted subs and, of course, eegees, the namesake drink. A watermelon eegee sat on nearly every table.
