Big cities get COVID-19 relief while smaller cities wait on Pritzker

Normal, IL, USA / www.cities929.com Jul 13, 2021 | 3:51 PM (The Center Square) – While Illinois’ 45 largest cities are making decisions about their share of federal tax dollars for COVID-19 relief, more than 1,250 cities across the state are still waiting for the first half of a combined $742 million in federal aid. The Pritzker administration has Illinois as one of eleven states in the nation that haven’t requested federal tax dollars for smaller communities. Of the $162 billion federal taxpayers are on the hook for in pandemic assistance to Illinois, more than $8 billion is directly for state government. The state’s 45 cities with more than 50,000 people share $2.7 billion. Chicago gets nearly $1.9 billion.

Manker Reports Previous IMRF Violation by South Jacksonville

By Benjamin Cox on July 12, 2021 at 8:23pm Village of South Jacksonville Mayor Tyson Manker has terminated a previous practice involving “off the books” payments to an employee of the village. In a press release on Friday, Manker says his office self-reported to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund’s legal division that former Village President Harry Jennings’ administration was unlawfully violating IMRF regulations that prevent retirees from working more than 1,000 hours while receiving retirement benefits. In the release, Manker says that the Jennings Administration intentionally skirted this regulation by compensating a Village employee with “off-the-books” payments in order to avoid the annual IMRF hourly-work limit. Manker says the practice has been ended and the employee no longer works for the village.
