A 21-year-old man shot and killed in Battle Creek has been identified, according to Battle Creek police.

Teen ordered to trial in 2020 shooting of 15-year-old

An 18-year-old Battle Creek youth has been ordered to stand trial in a shooting last year of another teenager. The case against Tyshaan Williams of Battle Creek was sent to Calhoun County Circuit Court on Wednesday following a preliminary hearing before District Judge Michelle Richardson. Williams is charged with assault with intent to murder, carrying a concealed weapon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He faces a maximum prison sentence of up to life if convicted. Williams was arrested after Battle Creek police said Damaunte Turner had been shot in the neck while riding his bicycle in the first block of Orchard Place about 3:20 p.m. on June 13.

Teen caught after running from courthouse, injuuring deputy

An 18-year-old teenager is in jail after running from the Calhoun County Courthouse and injuring a sheriff department sergeant. Tyshaan Williams was caught by deputies and Battle Creek police a few blocks from the courthouse at Dickman Road and South Avenue after running from the building about 9:30 a.m. Friday. Williams had gone to the office of Community Corrections for a drug test as part of his bond conditions approved Tuesday by District Judge Tracie Tomak. Calhoun County Sheriff Steve Hinkley said Friday that Williams failed the test and deputies were going to take him into custody for violating his bond.
