WHMI 93 5 Local News : White Lake Road Improvements Coming To Tyrone Township

April 5, 2021 Clearance has been granted for improvements to a stretch of road in Tyrone Township. At the latest meeting of the Tyrone Township Board of Trustees, officials approved a contract with the Livingston County Road Commission for work to be done on White Lake Road. Approximately .75 miles between Carmer Road and Hartland Road will get a hot mix asphalt wedge and overlay within the current contract year. The estimated cost for the project is $260,000, with the township paying half of that, or $130,000. Township Supervisor Mike Cunningham said that if it exceeds the Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Cost, the remaining balance will be paid by the Road Commission.

Residents express opposition to asphalt plant

 Opposition to a rezoning request is growing in Tyrone Township.  The Tyrone Township Planning Commission has been requested to rezone vacant land in order to create an asphalt manufacturing plant and warehouses. A preliminary review began during the planning commission’s meeting via Zoom on Tuesday, Feb. 9.  Several residents spoke against the rezoning request during public comment time of the Tyrone Township Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday, Feb. 16.  The planning commission held another Zoom meeting Wednesday, Feb. 17, however, this issue was not an agenda item. It was brought up during public comment time at the end of the meeting.  The property is currently zoned Farm Residential (FR) and is owned by Newman TTP, LLC. The prospective buyer of the property, Jon C. Sawyer of Lansing, is asking the township to rezone the vacant land to Heavy Industrial (M2).
