Tyrone teen pursues passion for poetry | News, Sports, Jobs

Courtesy photo An “avid reader” with a knack for public speaking and memorization took fourth place honors in the state finals of the 2021 Poetry Out Loud competition. Mario Grugan, a junior at Tyrone Area High School, competed against 1,000 student participants from 75 schools across the commonwealth during this year’s event, held virtually last month due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In Poetry Out Loud competitions, students select poems from the organization’s official anthology and recite them from memory to a panel of judges.

FFA accomplishments: National AgriScience bronze winner, Greenhand degree How has FFA prepared you for your future aspirations: FFA has taught me so many life skills including cooperation, applying skills learned in class to everyday life, communication, leadership and hard work. While these skills are general, they are important in every aspect of life from careers to relationships. I hope to pursue a career in the health field while still staying involved in agriculture in the future.
