Family of Cleveland man beaten to death by his cellmate sues Cuyahoga County jail officials, administrators John Caniglia, cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio The family of a Cleveland man beaten to death by his cellmate accused Cuyahoga County jailers Thursday of failing to prevent the attack.
Dionne Brooks, Shone Trawick’s wife and administrator of his estate, filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against county officials in U.S. District Court in Cleveland. The complaint says jail officials knew that Edmond Hightower, the man accused of killing Trawick, on Nov. 9, should have been isolated from others because of mental-health and rage issues.
“[Because of] Hightower’s well-documented history of impulsive and violent tendencies, jail staff assigned Hightower the designation ‘should not be housed with other inmates’ at the time he was booked into the jail,” the lawsuit says.
