defense if schools. julian, your reaction. the reason that voters are so tired of people in washington is because of these talking points that the nra puts out that david parrots. the students aren t asking for airport style security at the schools. the students are asking for what other countries do, which is what most other countries do, impose reasonable gun safety laws so that the wrong people don t get their hands on guns. nobody is talking about an australia-type system. it s a weak argument on the part of david, a strawman argument. he doesn t have a better argument. the fact of the matter is, the real fact of the matter is if you re a terrorist, mass murderer and you want to get your hands on an automatic weapon in this country you can do so. it is easy by going to a private seller or gun show. in many cases these mass murderers people are getting guns from their relatives or friends. and the reason that we have such an excessive amount of gun violence if you look at for
system, if you don t want a medicare for all type system, switzerland is entirely commercial privatized system where the only requirement is that everybody has insurance. but switzerland and the united states are not a comparison. it s not all of europe versus the united states. the population of switzerland is roughly the size of the population of new york city. right. so to scale what they re doing here, it s just not a one-to-one. right, i agree. but we re the only rich country that isn t doing something about it, so there are lots of approaches to universality. i m biased about this. i grew up in canada. it s a system that actually works despite the things you hear about canadians coming to the united states for health care, it s not really true. the point is when we looked at some of those outcomes like the age at which you die, could be a lot of other things involved in that. when you look at that, it could be americans work longer hours, we take less vacation, we eat m
covered a lot of hurricanes in the past. what makes this one different? well, it s absolutely the strengthening coming inland. we felt with hermaine and matthew last year. it was a category one, category two type system. this one being a major hurricane, the wind fields are wider and storm surge begins earlier. so you are getting impacts for a longer period of time. this is also forecasted to stall out and put catastrophic flooding in some of these areas. very different animal. we have heard of some people who did not obey those orders to evacuate. in fact, in a couple minutes we will speak to a family that did just that. you said the roads have been mostly clear. but have you seen evidence of people who did not listen to those warnings and are holding out? brett, do we still have you
in the world doesn t have that. what they have is basically a single pair universal type system like medicare for all. so that s what we re fighting for. as an er doctor you tend to see people who don t have coverage, who come to you as pay last resort. what do you think happens if this bill gets passed in do you see more of those people or less or buying private health plans like the republicans say they will? no, there s no way they re going to buy private health plans. frankly, that would give them any kind of doesn t coverage. and people are coming in now into emergency with untreated dental infections, mental health conditions, rehab. are filling our emergency rooms, frankly, and so there s lots of conditions that every other advanced country has figured out they can take care of in a clinic setting and they end up in our country they end up in the emergency room or even, unfortunately, dying as a result. so we re fighting for that medicare single pair. you know, we want to
capitol hill. we have a broken health care system but raising taxes on the middle class like sales tax and small business is not the way to fix the problem or solve the issue. nevada and texas are laughing all the way to the bank because california is going to chase the jobs right out of their state and if you don t believe me ask the oakland raiders who are moving to nevada because that will happen to california. it is too expensive to live there, teachers can live in the community and you can t run a business. they have cuba envy. we like what we are seeing over there. it doesn t work in europe or anywhere, it has been tried. it is a shame because a bifurcated place, kennedy knows this and a lot of people struggling. a single-payer type system.
