ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) Hayden Brown had 19 points and 13 rebounds as The Citadel topped Western Carolina 100-86 in the first round of the Southern Conference tournament on Friday.
The Citadel (13-11) faced top-seeded UNC Greensboro on Saturday.
Stephen Clark and Tyler Moffe added 18 points apiece for the Bulldogs, while Fletcher Abee chipped in 17.

Hayden Brown hit a driving layup with 1.1 seconds remaining to lift The Citadel past VMI 75-74 in SoCon basketball action Saturday at McAlister Field House.
The Citadel (12-9, 5-9 SoCon) denied VMI a fifth straight win in the series and placed four in double figures scoring, led by senior guard Kaiden Rice who scored a game-high 20 points.

It had been three weeks since the Chattanooga Mocs last played at McKenzie Arena, but they celebrated on Saturday with a 70-66 victory over The Citadel Bulldogs, making up for a 92-87 loss in Charleston back on Jan. 9.
It was the first game where the UTC men played in front of fans as 971 decided to support the local team.

BOTTOM LINE: East Tennessee State looks for its sixth straight win in the head-to-head series over The Citadel. East Tennessee State has won by an average of 19 points in its last five wins over the Bulldogs. The Citadel’s last win in the series came on Feb. 20, 2018, an 84-82 win.
SAVVY VETERANS: Senior leadership has been on display for both teams this year. Hayden Brown, Kaiden Rice, Tyler Moffe and Fletcher Abee have collectively accounted for 67 percent of The Citadel’s scoring this season. For East Tennessee State, Ledarrius Brewer, Damari Monsanto, David Sloan and Silas Adheke have combined to account for 63 percent of all East Tennessee State scoring, including 73 percent of the team’s points over its last five games.
