Ashland fire district seen as investment in future

Seventy-seven percent of voters voted in favor of the district on Tuesday; 22% opposed the measure.
Ashland Fire Department Chief Tyler Lathom said it will be about three weeks before the county clerk certifies the vote. At that point, three trustees will be chosen and the switch to the fire district will begin.
Lathom said the fire department started working on the proposed fire district three years ago. He said it was looking at what benefit there would be to people within the community when forming a district.
