Historical building at Groton beach gets some fresh paint

Listed for the first time in 30 years, the Tyler House is a timeless dwelling set on a secluded lot just minutes from Ventura Boulevard.
John Lautner famously said architecture is an art and although his masterpieces dot the streets of Los Angeles, very seldom do they surface on the market. Now, a lucky buyer has the chance to scoop up the architectural gem known as the Tyler House, which Lautner designed in 1950.
A wide, paved driveway leads up to the 1950 residence perched atop a sloping lot in Studio City. The home is surrounded by eucalyptus and sycamore trees, and it offers an attached carport on the lower level.
Local artists come together to support the Sorg Opera House with a benefit show

The Sorg Opera House on Main Street in Middletown has started having shows again after many of them were postponed during the coronavirus pandemic. Sorg Opera Revitalization Group volunteers have spent many hours painting, cleaning and sprucing up the interior and exterior at the historic building built in 1891.

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio â Many of Middletownâs best-loved musicians will present a benefit concert for the Sorg Opera Revitalization Group with the âSpring Blues and Roots Rock Extravaganzaâ on April 30.

More than 1,000 people have written to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), demanding the organization retract and apologize for its smear campaign against working-class victims of a 2018 racial discrimination hoax at Smith College. In July 2018, a black student ate lunch in a closed dorm and falsely claimed that security targeted her due to her race. The ACLU took up her case, framing the issue as racist employees accosting the student for “eating while black.”
The New York Times revealed the truth last month, but the ACLU has not retracted or apologized.
“The ACLU has ruined the lives of a cafeteria worker and janitor with false accusations of racism,” Nicki Neily, an advisory board member at the New Tolerance Campaign (NTC), said in a statement. “The ACLU must do the right thing by making amends to these individuals.”

In midsummer of 2018, Oumou Kanoute, a Black student at Smith College, recounted a distressing American tale: She was eating lunch in a dorm lounge when a janitor and a campus police officer walked over and asked her what she was doing there.
The officer, who could have been carrying a “lethal weapon,” left her near “meltdown,” Ms. Kanoute wrote on Facebook, saying that this encounter continued a yearlong pattern of harassment at Smith.
“All I did was be Black,” Ms. Kanoute wrote. “It’s outrageous that some people question my being at Smith College, and my existence overall as a woman of color.”
