USU Names Announces New Dean For Emma Eccles Jones College Of Education And Human Services

Utah State University Executive Vice President and Provost Francis Galey announced Friday that Alan L. Smith has been selected as the newest dean for the Emma Eccles Jones College Of Education And Human Services. Galey’s quoted in a press release saying, “Dr. Smith has extensive experience in research and interdisciplinary collaboration that will lend itself well to one of USU’s largest colleges.”   Smith comes to Utah State after nine years as professor and chairperson in the Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University. Additionally, he has more than 24 years of experience in academia. Smith will begin work as dean on July 1.

Utah Doctor Urges Young People To Get Vaccinated As COVID Cases Spike

According to a report from KUTV, Utah doctor Andrew Pavia is urging young people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as hospitals across the country are seeing spikes in cases among their age group. The University of Utah doctor shared a New York Times article that focuses on COVID numbers in Michigan, which is where the current COVID-19 outbreaks are the worst. The article says what they’re seeing in Michigan is starting to become a nationwide trend.   The article also says people aged 65 and older are greatly reducing transmission rates among their age group because many of them are fully vaccinated.

UDOT Announces New Projects For The Upcoming Construction Season

The Utah Department Of Transportation released a statement on Thursday, detailing the top road projects on its agenda out until 2022.  According to the release, the agency will work on 185 projects across the state at a total cost of $3.45 billion. UDOT said as construction ramps up, it’s doing everything it can to minimize the inconvenience to the public. However, UDOT’s Region 2 director Robert Steward said there will inevitably be impacts, restrictions and delays.   UDOT says its most impactful projects will be three Bangerter interchanges in Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties, renewment of parts of I-180 and I-215 in Salt Lake County and replacements from State Route 428 to the U.S. 40 interchange. 

Thousands Without Power In Salt Lake, Davis And Weber Counties

According to Rocky Mountain Power, more than 2,200 of its customers in Salt Lake, Davis and Weber counties are without electricity. RMP’s website says some of the outages are related to the strong winds blowing throughout the state, which has resulted in damaged equipment.    Most of the power outages are expected to be taken care of by 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, but RMP said restoring the power in some areas could take a few hours longer.   Tags:
