Investment tycoon Ken Griffin has blamed Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker for rising crime, calling his response to Chicago’s violence a “disgrace.” Critics say that rhetoric is “hypocritical” given Griffin’s firms’ stock portfolios.
Griffin’s hedge fund and market-maker firm reported more than $86 million in investments and holdings in such companies as of December. A company spokesman says Griffin doesn’t choose Citadel’s stock holdings.
Bipartisan proposals that would require lawmakers to put assets into blind trusts are facing resistance from watchdogs who say they wouldn’t go far enough and that members should be forced into broad-based mutual funds.
