We are following breaking news room southeast washington where a man is dead, a teenage girl injured in a shooting on Martin Luther king avenue southeast. Police are looking for the shooter. Roz plater has made her way to the scene. What can you tell us right now . We are in the Congress Heights section of southeast. Right at the end of this street, you see all those flashing lights, that is where that shooting happened. There is a Massive Police response to this. Dozens of police cars dozens of officers. Im told there are some issues of crowd control. Here is what we know. About 8 30 two people were shot. A man who has been pronounced dead a teen girl who was shot also, just with minor injuries. We do not know what led up to that shooting. Police are still investigating. They are looking for a suspect but there is a very vague description. The good news is nobody got hurt. This is the 90 Pound Mountain lion that was the center of attention all day long. It was first sighted around four in the morning and several times throughout the day and in several different locations. Finally, around five, police and game wardons zeroed in on its locationwhich was in the back yard of a home on ninth avenue near el camino real. The cat was hiding in a tree with no where to go. So, everyone held their positions and tried not to scare the animal into running off again. A wardon from the California Department fish and wildlife got the tranquilizer kit out and started mixing the cocktail that would eventually go into a dartthe first shot missed but the second two didnt. After the second dart struck the lion in the rear, it jumped out of the tree and over a walleventually, it was cornered in some bushes on ninth street with no where to go and the sedative setting in. Restrictions are those so called assault weapons and the high capacity ammunition clips that feed bullets into them as well as handguns. Inside the gun center here in frederick racks that used to hold socalled assault style rifles like the bushmaster are empty because theyre sold out.
