Andres Gimenez’s swing under repairs and 4 other things about the Cleveland Indians

SEATTLE Shortstop Andres Gimenez is in the body shop for some work on his swing. It needs it.
Gimenez has not played since the Indians opened this four-game series against the Mariners on Thursday. Manager Terry Francona said Gimenez has been working with hitting coaches Ty Van Burkleo and Victor Rodriguez to “simplify” his swing.
What the Indians are trying to do is to separate Gimenez from his leg kick. Or at least tone it down.
“It’s something the Mets put in to maybe find a little more power in there,” said Van Burkleo. “I don’t think he ever really got that comfortable with it. He tends to get over rotated with it. He’s going to go back to what he was doing before he put in the leg kick.”
Cleveland’s bats have experienced a plethora of highs and lows over the first six weeks of the season. And although its offense can be streaky, it played a big part in the team going 13-4 over its last 17 games. What helped them get there?

CLEVELAND, Ohio Minor league games won’t get started until next week, but Cleveland Indians prospects and high-minors players have stayed sharp at the club’s alternate training site in Columbus under the watchful eye of Clippers manager Andy Tracy.
With a smattering of games against other alternate site squads under their belts, Cleveland’s crew has continued to put in work since arriving from the club’s spring training site in Goodyear, Ariz. They’ve been able to play games against teams from alternate sites in Indianapolis, Toledo, Louisville and others in front of about 1,000 fans at Huntington Park.
