White Plains police arrested 40-year-old Glenmore Nembherd, in the attack on March 9 of 83 year old Nancy Toh outside of Nortstrom’s in White Plains.
The unprovoked attack by Nemherd, who is homeless, had Toh punched in the face and spat on by the assailant. While Westchester DA Mimi Rocah’s office is investigating whether the crime was bias related, White Plains police stated that they have no evidence that Toh is an Asian-American played any role in the attack.
“The Westchester District Attorney’s Office has assigned Assistant District Attorneys focusing on hate crimes and elder abuse to investigate this matter. Attacks like this one impact all of us. They create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation that keeps us from feeling safe and secure in our homes and communities. I urge everyone to report all hate crimes and bias incidents, even if you are not the victim, so that law enforcement can track and work to prevent these terrible acts,” stated DA Rocah.
