High resolution photographs of the ancient Black Stone at the heart of Mecca s holy Kabba have been revealed for the first time by Saudi Arabia.
Astonishing images of the al-Hajar al-Aswad were unveiled by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Saudi Grand Mosque on Monday.
They took more than 50 hours to capture and develop, with the General Presidency working with the Two Holy Mosques agency to take some 1,050 photographs in a seven-hour session.
The revered Islamic relic is said to date back to the time of Adam and Eve, and is set in the eastern corner of the Kabba at the centre of the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

The images of al-Hajar al-Aswad, or the Black Stone, are up to 49,000 megapixels in size and took more than 50 hours to photograph and develop, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Saudi Grand Mosque and the Prophet s Mosque said in a press release Monday.
The General Presidency worked with the Two Holy Mosques engineering agency to take 1,050 photos of the stone, each being 160 gigabytes. The stone was photographed for seven hours, the authority said.

JEDDAH: The Kingdom plays a pioneering role in supporting groups working to fight against blindness around the world, the head of the Eastern Mediterranean region at the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), has said.
Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Rajhi told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the IAPB a nonprofit organization registered in England with a board of trustees including representatives from regional heads is an umbrella group for all nonprofit organizations working in the field of eye health.
