Subscriber only Tweed Shire Council has adopted its plan of management for the Jack Evans Boat Harbour precinct to transform the area into a recreational and tourist centrepiece. The draft plan was placed on public exhibition until December 8, 2020 and was adopted by council at its February, 2021 meeting. Tweed Mayor Chris Cherry welcomed the plan s adoption and thanked residents for their input. Their contributions will make certain the priorities to enhance, protect and manage the precinct are delivered and that the plan meets the needs of the Tweed community now and into the future, Cr Cherry said. The plan ensures that the Jack Evans Boat Harbour precinct is recognised as a high quality, accessible regional facility for passive recreation.

Subscriber only An animal rights group is urging the state government to block the development of a greyhound racing facility proposed for the Tweed region claiming the proposal would cause injury to the dogs and promote problem gambling. In August last year the Tweed Heads Coursing Club purchased a 32ha parcel of land at Chinderah for $2 million which was touted to be Australia s biggest greyhound racing precinct . Under NSW Greyhound Racing, the centre of excellence would include a straight track, a circle track and a greyhound rehoming program with the most modern and safest equipment available. Tweed Heads Coursing Club will build a greyhound racing precinct after buying 32ha block of land at Chinderah.
It is understood the proposed community would cater to almost 400 dwellings.
Ultimately the applicant, NCV Enterprises, will seek approval for about $37 million worth of capital works, including an internal road network and solar panels with battery storage. A development application proposing early works, related to a planned intentional community in the Mount Burrell and Kunghur area, has been lodged with Tweed Shire Council. Subscriber only Five residential units above a cafe are proposed in a DA for a beachfront Kingscliff property. A development application proposing $3.2 million worth of works has been lodged with Tweed Shire Council for Corporate Properties Pty Ltd. The DA is proposing a commercial food and drink premises and above it, four one-bedroom units and one three-bedroom unit at 65 Cylinders Drive in Kingscliff. A shop-top housing development has been proposed for 65 Cylinders Drive in Kingscliff. In a document written for the applicant, Zone Planning Group explained their clients seek to use part of the council road reserve for alfresco footpath dining, with a retractable awning adjoining the road reserve area .
