so glad you re with us this morning. we begin with bowe bergdahl and new criticism today for the army sergeant held for five years by the taliban. this morning, as he continues to recover, really begins his recovery at a u.s. military hospital in germany, there are new questions, new accusations from some of those who served alongside him. we don t know what really happened in afghanistan five years ago and how he fell into taliban hands, but some of his fellow soldiers are calling bergdahl a deserter who walked off his base and put his fellow soldiers lives in jeopardy. six service members died during the search for him. it s very frustrating to me to turn on the tv and to siebergdale s family on the tv being shown to everyone, and then these soldiers, although they had very beautiful and extravagant ceremonies after they died, were pretty much only recognized in the local news, local newspapers. they were never nationally televised for their sacrifices
without having anybody to answer to, without having anything to worry about. he wanted to go see afghanistan for himself without the army stopping him or having to tell him what to do. i think he was just trying to, you know, go on an adventure. i know from talking to you earlier and also more than a dozen of your fellow soldiers with the 50 first and the other units, a lot of people are upset because so many men were lost in the search for him. in fact, you have the names of two of those soldiers lost tattooed on your back. i believe martinek and andrews and foster, blackfoot company. tell me about these men and does this make you angry about bergdahl s release? in a way, it really does. it s very frustrating to me to turn on the tv and to see bergdahl s family on the tv
sextupled in two years and in the mobile space, apps are where it s at, growing from a $2 billion to a $38 billion business over the past five years. luckily for us, americans anded aer have advertisers like to lean back. derrick, thank you so much for joining us. interesting stuff in this piece. let s start with the good news. all this talk about tv being so yesterday, internet is where it s at. i feel like longer term, internature will take more and more control. while viewership is slightly down, advertising spending has gone up. america s relationship with television is sort of uniquely romantic. we watch more television than except maybe the uk. we probably watch more than anybody else. we watch between 4 1/2 and 5
and they have some luxury items. there is no incentive for many to break out of that. i agree with that, but there is two factors that are even more exacerbating so to speak. there are many of these programs that help define poverty and whether you are impoverished that are an incentive for the dad not to be in the home, for the dad not to marry the mom. and that increases the likelihood that the child, six, seven, eight times more likely to live in poverty if the dad is not around. one other thing is people claiming disability. everybody on the long island railroad. almost every conductor can be considered on disability and get ssi at the age of 40 or 50. your back hurts or you have a mood disorder. these things did not exist when we were coming up. a mood disorder. everybody in television news would be on disability, right? everybody. back hurts and then tv being
