A united city council is giving Mayor Richard Homrighausen until Monday to respond to a request to resign his position immediately.
Council sent Homrighausen, Dover s longest serving chief executive, a letter on Tuesday calling for his resignation, citing his declining ability to lead the city.
The letter followed a meeting on Monday evening, where council members discussed missed deadlines, time-sensitive material not being addressed and a lack of communication from the mayor.
But they all spoke of how difficult an action it was to call for his resignation. This is a meeting that I absolutely take no joy in presiding over, Council President Shane Gunnoe said as the session opened. In fact, I ve said many prayers hoping this meeting would ultimately not be necessary.
