along florida s east coast are under mandatory evacuation. cnn s miguel marquez is live in the town of vero beach. miguel, what s the story there? reporter: yeah, they just lifted those mandatory evacuations for vero beach and indian county. it was sunny a few minutes ago. it s starting to rain here again. the wind remains fairly constant for the last 24 hours. but you hear what s happening in the bahamas, the massive amount of damage and loss of life and property, this storm is going to not only affect there, but here as well, in ways small and large. one thing that they absolutely love here in vero beach in this part of florida are turtles. and the number of species that lay eggs around this time. right now, tons of these eggs have been lost. this is a turtle nest that have been lost here along the beach here.
with make $65 a day. some of us make more and we work off of commission. if we don t rent them we don t make good luck to you. thank you for stopping to talk to us. now i want to stop and talk about the turtles. here in the gulf coast, they care deeply about the turtles. i had a chance to go down the beach the other day 20 miles that direction. i was there as they uncovered a turtle nest. they are relocating the turtles and here is how that went. take a look. you are witnessing something rare on the gulf coast of alabama. opening up a turtle nest. this is a loggerhead turtle nest and they believe there might be 100 or so eggs inside here. they are going to take the eggs and transfer them over to the florida coast. why? well, when the turtles hatch, they believe they won t have much chance as they go out into the waters, they may face the oil. they certainly would not survive that.
how is going down there? going pretty well. a lot of people crossing their fingers. hoping the news is good. they hope at the very least it s not going to get much worse. they will each cap the well or capture the oil from that well and things could start to get better while they work on the bottom kill. there is a lot of oil out there and it s rough on the wildlife. they are moving every turtle nest over to cape canaveral, florida. i caught up with a team digging up a nest. you are witnessing something very rare here, they are opening up a turtle nest. this is logger head turtle necessary, they believe there may be hundred eggs inside here. they are going to take the eggs and transfer them over to the florida coast. when the turtles hatch they don t believe they will have
