NEW ULM The New Ulm City Council accepted the resignation of Mayor Robert Beussman and began the process of selecting and appointing a person to fill the vacant position mayor position, Tuesday.
Beussman formally resigned as New Ulm’s Mayor on Thursday, April 15. In a letter to New Ulm citizens, Beussman said one of the reasons for his resignation was medical issues.
The council thanked Beussman for his years of service and presented him with a plaque during the meeting. Beussman received a standing ovation from those in attendance.
With the resignation of Beussman, the council appointed Council President Andrea Boettger as acting mayor effective April 21 until the council could appoint a successor. A vacancy was formally declared for the office of mayor before announcing the start of the selection process to appoint the new mayor.

NEW ULM The New Ulm City Council will formally accept the resignation of Mayor Robert Beussman and begin the process of selecting and appointing a person to fill the vacant position mayor position, Tuesday.
Beussman formally resigned as New Ulm’s mayor on Thursday, April 15. In a letter to New Ulm citizens, Beussman said one of the reasons for his resignation was medical issues, but it was also prompted by a letter signed by all the city councilors requesting his resignation or the council would take action at the next council meeting. The council believed Beussman’s ability to perform his duties as mayor was significantly compromised. The council’s decision to request Beussman’s resignation was not made in a formal meeting.

With the deep freeze of winter behind us, it’s time to look ahead to the new beginnings of spring and the bustling activity of summer in New Ulm. This is also the case for the Recreation Center remodel and addition project funded by our local ½% sales tax. With construction nearing the half-way mark, the project is showing great progress and creating much excitement.
In early April, the entire facility will close and be completely turned over to the construction contractors to safely complete the remaining work items on the project. This will mark the final push for all the various components of the project, to meet the estimated completion in late summer/early autumn.
