Six months after the United Nations acceded to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s request that it start calling Turkey “Türkiye,” the State Department said Thursday it has decided to do the same.
The department will use the Turkish-language spelling in “most formal, diplomatic, and bilateral contexts” after a request from the country’s embassy, a spokesman said.
