A French River-area woman who assaulted her boyfriend last July and was not to be driving when she left the scene of a two-vehicle collision in December has been given a suspended sentence, a probation order and a $2,000 fine.
“Your consumption of alcohol has been your initiation into the criminal justice system – that date in July when you assaulted your intimate partner – and your difficulties would have been compounded five months later when you hit another vehicle driving while a prohibited driver due to fines and an earlier conviction,” Ontario Court Justice Louise Serre told Leeann Randell, who was attending Sudbury court via Zoom link.

Nipissing West OPP have asked for the public’s help with their investigation into a suspected arson on Turenne Road in French River early Thursday morning.
Members of the French River Fire Department responded to a structural fire at an unoccupied seasonal residence around 1 a.m., the OPP said in a release. The fire was extinguished, but there was extensive damage to the property.

Members of the local OPP detachment, along with the Office of the Fire Marshal, began their investigation later the same day. Preliminary findings revealed someone had started the fire, police said.
