Though observers of the Nigerian film industry have held the view that filmgoers in the country have a special preference for comedies of the slapstick flavour, leading Nigerian filmmaker, Mildred Okwo has urged Nigerians to storm the cinemas for her new film, La Femme Anjola and prove that they have taste for a variety of films.
La Femme Anjola, is the latest offering of The Audrey Silva Company(TASC), a production outfit jointly owned by Okwo and superstar actress, Rita Dominic. It is an African neo-noir crime thriller that tells the story of a young, male stockbroker named Dejare whose life is turned upside down when he falls for an unusual lady named Anjola (Rita Dominic) married to a wealthy gangster. The film was written by Tunde Babalola and directed by Mildred Okwo.
La Femme Anjola, the buzzy crime thriller from the stables of The Audrey Silva Company Limited, directed by Mildred Okwo and starring Rita Dominic and Nonso Bassey (in lead roles) will launch locally in theatres nationwide on the 19th of March 2021. The film will be distributed by, Silverbird Distribution, the company, which distributed their earlier releases The Meeting and Surulere.
In response to the prevalent realities of the film industry, La Femme Anjola will also release digitally for the rest of the world on a paid platform using assets specifically created for this. This move is expected to be a landmark one as La Femme Anjola becomes the highest profile Nollywood film to explore distribution and exhibition opportunities outside of the mainstream avenues currently existing.
1. Rita Dominic and Nonso Bassey play love interests
In case you are wondering, Bassey and Dominic make a fine onscreen couple in La Femme Anjola but it doesn t end there. The film will reportedly show some deliciously steamy scenes with the actors doing what lovers do!
2. Its SA scenes were shot during the Xenophobic attacks in the country
Principal photography for La Femme Anjola lasted for about 30 days. After 22 days in Lagos, the cast and crew took a trip to Cape Town to continue filming.
Interestingly, this was at the peak of the 2019 Xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Mildred Okwo, however, shared that their location was safe and away from the chaos.
