Masisi to reshuffle cabinet | The Patriot On Sunday

Underperforming ministers to be dropped Masisi has limited options in BDP backbench -Analyst BAKANG TIRO editors@thepatriot.co.bw Frustrated by the poor performance of some cabinet ministers, President Mokgweetsi Masisi is caught in a dilemma and is considering a shakeup of the Executive arm of government, The Patriot on Sunday has learnt. Source whisper that Masisi was supposed to announce a reshuffle on Thursday morning before travelling to Namibia to meet his counterpart President Dr Hage Geingob on an official visit but chose to hold the decision in abeyance. It is expected that Masisi will soon pull the trigger, cracking the whip on some underperfoming ministers.

Serufho to head BNSC? | Sunday Standard

The six-month long hunt for Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) chief executive officer (CEO) may be over. According to sources within the BNSC, the commission has identified current acting CEO Tuelo Serufho as its man for the job. Serufho was seconded to the BNSC from sister organisation Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC). Serufho was appointed acting BNSC CEO after the departure of Falcon Sediomo’s retirement.  He was allegedly offered contractual extension but opted to retire after having spent five year as the head of BNSC secretariat.   “As a norm his name was sent to Cabinet for approval and they have since done that. It is a matter of time before he could be revealed to the public” said the sources. 

No funds for Hukuntsi mini-stadium- Rakgare

UNCERTAIN: Rakgare Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare has told parliament that construction of a mini stadium in Hukuntsi will not happen due to financial constraints. When responding to a question by Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi North, Talitha Monnakgotla, this week Rakgare said that it was impossible to construct one at the moment. “The need for a mini sports complex in Hukuntsi is without doubt, however, due to financial constraints my Ministry is unable to indicate when such a facility will be built.” He mentioned that should the financial situation improve, the Kgalagadi North Constituency will be among the areas to be considered for construction of a mini sports complex.

Cultural Festivals to get P120 000 from MYSC

11th February 2021 Responding to a question in parliament, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture (MYSC) Tumiso Rakgare revealed that his Ministry annually injects P120,000.00 from the Arts and Culture Grant for each of Botswana’s cultural festivals. Questioned on what strategies are in place to resuscitate the Domboshaba Annual Cultural Festival and pair it with other similar cultural festivals to create an annual Northern Cultural Festival, Rakgare said MYSC cultural festivals are meant to promote and preserve cultural practices and traditions.  “They stimulate social cohesion, improve the social environment and have beneficial economic spin offs for the local communities,” he said in parliament. 

BNSC, BNOC cease hostilities with merger

The boards of the two organisations have since proposed three models for consideration to government.  Sunday Standard Sport is in position of a leaked document that the BNSC/BNOC drafted for consideration my sport ministry.   This is after the Minster of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC), Tumiso Rakgare, aggressively spearheaded the initiative to merge the two sports bodies to work together.   The first model they have proposed is “ Total merger”. Under this model, BNSC and BNOC will merge into one organisation, which will be a civil entity. Under this model, the board of the new organisation would be elected by National Sport Associations/Federations.
