Henley s Stonor Park to appear on Antiques Roadshow again

A landmark just outside of Buckinghamshire will feature in this Sunday’s episode of Antiques Roadshow, for the second time in three months. Stonor Park in Henley will make an appearance on the BBC One programme, which will see experts identify treasures including a unique group of Indian medals, Florence Nightingale’s toolkit and the story of a remarkable female pilot from WW2. Medieval jousting tournament at Henley s Stonor Park

A MEDIEVAL jousting event with horseback stunts and 15th century black powder weapon displays will be held at one of Britain’s oldest family-owned stately homes. Stonor Park, in Henley is welcoming people to join the Knights of Royal England for an epic display of medieval jousting for their annual event. The memorable joust will see knights in full armour stopping at nothing, charging full tilt on horses in an attempt to strike their opponent’s shield and knock them out of their saddle. There will also be falconry displays, 15th century weapon displays, Agincourt History Theatre and archery, with medieval costume competitions and plenty of food and drink.

FAMILIES made the most of the relaxation of lockdown rules to explore a new £25,000 adventure playground in the grounds of an historic country house. The Tumblestone Hollow adventure playground, at Stonor Park, in the Chilterns near Nettlebed, took 18 months to complete and was unveiled to the public over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. In keeping with social distancing rules, a limited number of tickets were sold in advance and sold out instantly. As well as the large wooden playground, there was an Easter trail, takeaway food and drinks and an opportunity to discover the park’s stone circle, woodland and steep, hilly grounds.

The Legend of Tumblestone Hollow is the work of children’s author Amy Sparkes and illustrator Steve Pearce. Steve, 69, who lives in Cornwall, was initially recruited by Norwich-based Capco, the builders of the £250,000 attraction, to assist with its theming and design. He said: “I’m not actually a book illustrator as such. I design theme parks, adventure playgrounds, rides that’s my world.
