Brian Hollingshead has worked with county health officials for months to safely reopen Tulare City School District for in-person learning, he said.
Hollingshead, the district’s superintendent, planned to reopen elementary schools on Jan. 12. This seemed likely after the county health department invoked its “local authority” to approve in-person instruction waivers for about a half a dozen districts waiting for state approval since November.
These schools, including TCSD, are now expanding their on-campus cohorts after surging COVID-19 cases prompted California health officials to eliminate authority previously given to county health departments throughout the state, a Tulare County health official said.
