A first-time competitive cherry stone spitter has won the top prize of a competion on minimal preparation.
Dunedin nurse Tui Smith said his training began yesterday morning and that was enough for him to claim the trophy as New Zealand Cherry Stone Spitting Champion 2020. I just found out about it [the competition] this morning and thought I know how to spit . So I spent about half an hour this morning in the back yard with a box of cherries.
