Some 158,000 students are slated to attend general education schools in Estonia this school year, or 1,500 more than last year. Of these, nearly 14,000 are entering the first grade when compulsory education in Estonia begins.
April 1 marked the deadline for local governments to inform the Ministry of Education and Research of any decisions to close or restructure local schools. Among other changes, five schools in various parts of the country will be closing their doors ahead of the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year this fall.
