The HC was hearing a plea moved by NGO Social Jurist, a civil rights group seeking directions for providing an ultrasound machine and medicines to treat TB patients at MCD-run hospital Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis (RBI PMT).
Tuberculosis, which is transmitted through the respiratory tract, kills more than 1.6 million people and infects more than 10 million worldwide each year.
India accounts for 27 per cent of the total TB cases in the world, according to the recently released Global TB Report 2023 by the World Health Organisation. But the report also noted some positive changes on reporting of TB cases and deaths caused by it.
