Vaka Paikea’s scheduled sail from Rarotonga to the island of Mitiaro tomorrow, Friday, will mark the beginning of another voyage for Te Puna Marama Voyaging Foundation UNESCO Teretereanga Vaka programme.
Now that the canoe and the crew of this next leg from Juneau to Ketchikan have been blessed, they are waiting for a favorable weather window to make their departure and officially start the circumnavigation of the Pacific.
Cook Islands archaeologist and Pacific programmer at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, Ma’ara Maeva will be making a special presentation at the National Museum this afternoon from 12 noon to 2pm on “Paikea: Ancestral connections and stories woven in the stars”.
