john fund, columnist at the wall street journal, joins us now. what does the report say about that? well, it shows we actually have the most progressive tax system of any major industrial democracy. this is a report by the organization of economic cooperation and development, respected paris-based drgroup a the top 1% of income earners in the country earn 19% of the national income, that is before taxes. but, they pay 41% of our income tax. at the same time almost half of americans, don t pay any income tax. because they either don t earn enough or get earned income tax credits and other tax credits and our tax system is not nearly what people think it is. gregg: we, just out of curiosity, we had our brain room pull up the 2008 tax returns and let s put it on the screen, here s what we found for that year alone, john. the top 10% pay 70% of the taxes
