“I think that this is not a destination motion, but kind of the start of a dialogue or a process to engage the W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council and Tsartlip and Tsawout community members to, you know, discuss those areas of significance and would be meaningful,” Paltiel said at a council meeting Monday. He said it would be a gradual process of engaging with W̱SÁNEĆ leaders and community members to determine what areas they would like to attach traditional names to, as well as an opportunity for the district to connect with the history of the land. “I think the journey is just as important as the destination there,” he said.
