the victims. and developing now out west the colorado theater shooting trial is entering a new phase. a day after a jury found james holmes guilty of first degree murder in the attack that left 12 dead and 70 injures nearly three yoorears ago. let s go live to colorado and scott cohn. good morning. what s next in this phase? jose next is the penalty phase. that begins on monday with the attorneys for both sides, monday and tuesday, and then the jury the same jury that convicted james holmes coming back on wednesday. and in many ways this really is the crux of the case because remember, at the very beginning, james holmes attorneys offered to enter a guilty plea in exchange for the death penalty being taken off the table. the prosecution would have none of that. and that s what led to the three-month trial and the re-sounding verdict on 165 counts yesterday, guilty across the board for james holmes. an emotional courtroom yesterday. jurors were sobbing. victims families crying
throughout. and james holmes parents emotional as well. as the verdicts were read. jose. what about holmes himself? did he show any emotion? none at all. he stood throughout the counts being read, a little over an hour. hands in his pocket looking straight ahead. his attorney is showing no emotion either. that s been kind of the case with loems s holmes as you watched him through the trial. the most you saw was swiveling back and forth in his chair. this instance he was standing up looking straight ahead, hands in his pocket, 93no emotion at all. unanswered questions surrounding the deaths of a civil rights activist found dead in her texas jail cell this week. 28-year-old sandra bland committed suicide, authorities say. this video purports to show ler encounter with police last friday. the chicago native was in texas when she was pulled over for what police say was a routine traffic stop. the video does not show what
merits and provide people with the certainty they can come forward and petition for this relief. that s the way to get to the result we seek for our country and communities. but it is already tangled up in courts and 26 states have said what the president did was overreaching his authority. it s already stuck in the courts. isn t it better to finally get the supreme court to deal with it one way or another and not leave millions of people in uncertainty? so the we think that the case we re arguing in july may ultimately get to the supreme court. the challenge is if we were to appeal this stay, the decision that happened this week one way or the other, whether the the government won or lost we would still have this other argument to make and people would not have the certainty they need in order to benefit from this program. so this is about making sure we are fighting vigorously winning the case on the merits so that when the time comes that we re implementing this program people
