The number of micro-containment zones in Puducherry has more than doubled in the span of a week, in proportion to the recent surge in new cases and the net increase in home isolation cases and the overall caseload.

Now, masks will be available at Ponlait milk outlets for ₹1 each and 50 ml sanitiser bottles for as little as ₹10 as part of efforts by the administration to make the two most important measures for preventing COVID-19 affordable to a larg section of society.
Launching the programme at Raj Nivas, Lt. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan singled out the wearing of masks as the most crucial component of COVID-19 prevention.
“While we can scale up stocks of medicines and tests or ramp up bed capacity, the simplest way to contain the pandemic remains compliance with masking norms. This is why a supply chain for delivering masks and sanitisers at prices that are much lower than the market rates is being rolled out,” the Lt. Governor said.
Puducherry registered 715 fresh
coronavirus cases during the last twenty-four hours ending 10 am on Saturday, raising the overall infection count to 47,108. Three more persons two in Puducherry and one in Karaikal succumbed to death taking the toll to 705. While there were 4090 active cases, as many as 42,313 persons were discharged after recovery so far. Director of the Department of Health and Family Welfare services here, S Mohan Kumar said the 715 new cases were identified at the end of examination of 4,748 people and these patients were spread over Puducherry 567, Karaikal 88, Yanam 35 and Mahe 25. The Director said 198 patients were discharged during the last twenty-four hours from hospitals.
