good morning, julia. thanks for joining us. let s start with governor desantis trip to washington yesterday. on the one hand the fact any republican lawmaker is willing to defy try and already support desantis before the governor announces a bid, that s a good thing. but it sure seems desants was outmaneuvered yesterday as trump picked up investments for that delegation than desantis did you re absolutely, right, jonathan i think it speaks volumes so much of the florida delegation has essentially turned away from the governor and endorsed former president trump. it shows the conflict that s happening on both ends of florida with donald trump. laura lee, obviously, that was sort of expected because he obviously appointed her as secretary of state but i think there s something else going on here i don t think that these lawmakers necessarily dislike ron desantis in fact, a lot of republicans i talk to say he very much
negotiate with him, but it s a risky play i m very skeptical he ll be able to actually pass this. as you noted very slim majority. and when you only have four seats four votes to lose really everybody s got leverage, and that s what you re already seeing and as often happens conservatives are asking for more and more and more and the more conservative things you add onto this, they re talking about repealing the inflation reduction act now, there becomes a lot of politically difficult things that maybe the moderates don t want to vote for it s asking a lot of his conference, and it s a risky play because i m not sure it actually improves their position all that much if they actually are able to get it done. yeah, the white house immediately condemned the idea to repeal the ira there. let s shift gears. yesterday washington trying to get some secure congressional support for his likely presidential bid only to be outmaneuvered former president trump.
setting aside the surprise that trump campaign was able to pull it off, what s your take right now about the state of the race, is desantis, is he spinning his wheels if. yeah, it feels that way look, donald trump has no better base than the house republican conference not that surprising he s racking up a lot of endorsement. if you re a house republican, someone on the ballot, a much safer bet to go with donald trump. ron desantis doesn t pose a big threat to you. if you endorse ron desantis a real chance that trump could mess with your direct, weaken your support members are looking at the same polling that we re all looking at, donald trump is well ahead of ron desantis. the idea of ron desantis hasn t been exciting as what we ve seen as potential candidate ron
