Letter: Ruth’s record is a good one
It was not a good election day for Labour in Derbyshire and in many parts of the country.

Parts of the High Peak, as it often has over the years, bucked the trend and none more than in Whaley Bridge.
Robert Largan MP must have worn himself out as he rushed up and down, taking selfies throughout the campaign.
Surely this is a real example of the “egotistical self-aggrandisement” he referred to in his last column. Candidates often popped up with him, as he told us how excellent they were, but he stayed centre stage.

Tories take Southampton
The Conservatives gained seven seats to hold 25 of Southampton City Council’s 48 seats, with Labour on 23.
Conservatives make inroads in Rotherham
The Tories came from nowhere – they had no seats before – to become a serious rival to Labour in the South Yorkshire metropolitan borough. The new chamber has 20 Conservatives and 32 Labour councillors.

The Conservatives have retained control of Derbyshire County Council and increased their majority.
Labour suffered losses, with the group leader Paul Smith being defeated in the ward he had held for 25 years.
