CANTON TWP. A couple picnic shelter pavilions and a concrete slab likely make for a drab impression at Faircrest Park.
But with the help of $250,000 in state funding, the township park is on the verge of receiving a facelift. The fresh look will include a new covered pavilion, a stage with a hood over it for performances and a veterans memorial area with a display featuring flags of the military armed forces.
Faircrest Park, located in the 1000 block of Faircrest Street SW, lacks indoor plumbing now for restrooms and running water. We want it to be a nicer place for people to go, township Trustee Christopher Nichols said. The restrooms are really important when we have Community Day. We have events in the park. The park is surprisingly well used, especially in the summer. We just want to take it to the next level.
