Perry trustees hear street lighting options | News, Sports, Jobs

MARY ANN GREIER SALEM Perry Township trustees are holding off on any change to their street lighting program with Ohio Edison, but may research whether a reassessment can take place for what residents pay. Ohio Edison/First Energy spokesman Troy Rhoades explained the street lighting options Monday, noting that switching to all LED will increase the township’s monthly street lighting bill by nearly $350, not counting the $25,000 cost to install the bulbs on 120 poles. He said another option would be a monthly payment plan to cover the $25,000 installation cost, which would come out to $532 per month for 60 months including an additional $7,000 for interest. That’s on top of the monthly fee of $1,196 for street lighting.

Spring cleanup back on track for April | News, Sports, Jobs

mgreier@salemnews.net Trustees announced Monday that the spring cleanup is back after being canceled last year due to the pandemic. The cleanup for residents in the unincorporated area begins the week of April 5 on the north side, then moves to the south side the week of April 12, with State Street the dividing line. Nothing with freon or glass will be accepted and no televisions, computers or computer monitors are allowed. No garbage is allowed, either. Furniture, such as old lawn chairs, can be put out. Households are limited to one piece of heavy furniture that can be lifted by two people into the township truck.

Perry residents complain about trash pickup | News, Sports, Jobs

mgreier@salemnews.net PERRY TWP. Trustee Chair Steve Bailey said he’s gotten a few calls about garbage not being picked up by one trash hauler. The issue is one that Salem City Council’s Rules & Ordinances Committee will be discussing during a meeting tonight. Salem City Service/Safety Director Joe Cappuzzello said last week that he’s been getting calls and has been in constant contact with Aarrow Disposal about getting overflowing residential containers picked up. “The other haulers don’t seem to have the problems that Aarrow’s having,” Trustee Vice Chair Jim Armeni said. He commented that they’re either having equipment issues or dealing with COVID-19, but he recalled problems two years ago when he had them on Merle Road.
