Cornwall Council’s independent councillors have announced their new leadership team for the next four years. However one councillor has already left the group and decided to create a new alliance with the leading Conservative group. Loic Rich, councillor for Truro Tregolls, is the new leader of the Independent group at County Hall after former group leader Carolyn Rule lost her seat in the recent elections. And, in a strange twist, the new deputy leader is Adam Paynter, former deputy leader of the council and former leader of the Liberal Democrat group at County Hall. Cllr Paynter stood as an independent in the recent election after he was involved in an internal investigation by the Lib Dems following a complaint from a colleague after he shared a confidential email.
