want to contest that, it goes to congress, where two-thirds of both houses have to vote to say that the president is unfit in order for the president to continue to take control. okay. so, clearly, it s an uphill battle, certainly, at this point. but what sort of mentally unstable deeds would legally qualify to put this amendment into effect? well, alex, it s a great question. the amendment itself doesn t really specify. and there s really no case law to guide us, because it hasn t ever happened. so, it s really going to be up to congress. it s like impeachment, in that what is an impeachable offense is whatever congress decides is an kbeef simpeachable f qualifi as being unfit for office is whatever congress by a two-thirds vote decides. it can be anything from actually being incapacitate d, as president wilson supposedly was
in the northeast, mid-atlantic, california, zbrirngts in minnesota, texas, certainly florida, where members are going to be in some very challenging situations in the house is clearly at risk. the president, as you know, he s demanding a border wall in any sort of kproepcompromise wi democrats that would protect the daca recipients. the democrats have indicated that the border wall is a total nonstarter. they re, in fact, willing to shut down the government over it. but you have republicans in the majority. so who s going to win with the government shutdown? and might the president be overplaying his hand in this regard? well, alex, i believe there s an there is an agreement to be reached on daca or the d.r.e.a.m.ers. i believe it will be paired up with some kind of reasonable border security or enhancement measures. now, i think the president s rhetoric isn t always helpful. when he talks border wall, nobody s quite sure what that means. no one is talking about a 2,000-mile-long
this makes them very happy, because they want bannon out of the picture as it pertains to campaigns because they don t want to lose any seats. john, do you think the bannon/trump alliance is dead for good? how many times has the president reconciled in the past with people who he s called worse names than sloppy. you re exactly right. look at his relationship right now with lindsey graham, who he mocked and ridiculed. lindsey graham was one of the tough opponents of president trump and now they play golf together and they re getting along fine. no, i don t assume that that relationship is over, because this president turns on a dime. you know, the words that he says one day bear little relation to the words that he says another day. and so, no, they may be back, but again, the significance of bannon will be what donald trump invests in it. does he evaluate bannon? does he decide that the tone and
various traits and characteristics that he has publicly demonstrated and i think the american people knew what they were voting for when they elected him. i wonder if that has any influence or at least a distaste for what they seem to have voted for, as we look at some new poll numbers. i ll ask you about this. the president is underwater with the american public by 13 points. 54% disapproving of his job performance. that s the same survey which found a whopping 63% of respondents disapproving of how congress is doing its job. and i might add, this poll was conducted after your party passed the tax cut package. so do you think the public wans you to engage in all of these efforts for reform if the bills are passing on a party line vote? well, i look, i do believe that we need to enact some bipartisan reforms and get some legislative victories. for example, we re going to be moving in, in the next few days, we, congress, are going to have to pass a number of bills on a bipartisan ba
