On a happier note this week, at least for me and the 81+ million people who voted for him, let’s all just take a moment to pause and be grateful for at least one thing: the world is now well rid of Trump. I believe, together with millions of Americans, that the we collectively sighed with relief at 12:01pm January 20th knowing that the nuclear codes were now out of the hands of the man who damn near decimated democracy. While it frightens me to think about what he might be up to next, nothing could be as frightening as having him “in charge.” Or could it? The spread of misinformation, lies, fake news and just plain irresponsible journalism threatens us daily and if the power of media has shown us anything – it’s just how dangerous fake news can be. Trump was a master of it and I fear he is not done with us yet. Whether from Trump or elsewhere, fake news is still circulating widely, in particular “news” about the pandemic, and that concerns me. On Jan. 8, 2021, Twitter announced that it was permanently suspending the account of U.S. President Donald Trump. Shortly afterward, Trump posted a message from the official @POTUS account deriding Twitter’s decision and saying that he was “look[ing] at the possibilities of building out or own platform in the future.” This message was deleted by Twitter, too, but it generated conversation about the potential of a “Trump News Network.”
As these rumors circulated, so did an image that supposedly showed the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump promoting a “Trump News Network” on the right-wing social media site Parler:

President Donald Trump is ending 2020 like he spent it: Insulting Fox News while still posting clips from the highly-rated network.
“Watching @FoxNews is almost as bad as watching Fake News @CNN. New alternatives are developing!” he tweeted on Wednesday.
Tuesday night, he posted a full video from the network, where he did his first and only interview at the end of November.
Some observers on Twitter immediately questioned if his reference to “developing” alternatives to the channel was related to reports that he’s been considering setting up a digital media outlet.
